End of Life, not End of Choice.

End of Life, not End of Choice.
The Issue
Everyone should be able to choose where they die. But each year, more than 36,000 people with cancer in England are denied this choice.
Instead, they spend their final days in hospital rather than at home as they had wanted. This is often because they don’t have access to free social care. By changing this, thousands more cancer patients could spend their last days at home, surrounded by the people they love.
And, this can be done whilst saving the NHS money. Macmillan Cancer Support has revealed that providing free social care to support people to die at home and not in hospital could save up to a staggering £69 million per year.
No one should face cancer alone, especially not in the last days of their life. Please sign our petition asking politicians to commit to implementing free social care at the end of life and for political parties to make this a General Election priority.
“16 hours before our son Neil died, when he was in hospital, a Macmillan nurse helped him to fulfil his dearest wish to die in his own home. These good memories are so important to us now.”
Toby and Dorothy, whose son Neil died from cancer aged 35.
