The Issue

As a birth worker, I experience the harsh realities of obstetric and hospital violence on a daily basis. It is unfortunate that an environment which is meant to bring joy through the celebration of life is, for many, a place of fear, disrespect, and violence. This form of abuse can come in the form of a non-consensual medical examination, verbal abuse, shaming, or neglect – practices that are not only unethical, but also deeply traumatizing.

Statistics from the World Health Organization suggest that around one third of women worldwide experience disrespectful or abusive treatment during childbirth in health facilities. These statistics speak of a larger, systemic issue that needs urgent eradication.

We aim to lobby healthcare providers, institutions, and policymakers to focus their efforts on eliminating any form of violence within obstetrics and hospitals in general. We envision a space where every individual is treated with the respect they deserve, especially during such profound moments as childbirth.

This isn't just about improving statistics - it's about improving lives. Sign this petition to help us put an end to obstetric and hospital violence. Your signature brings us one step closer to transforming these institutions into safe spaces for everyone.
