The Issue

Yesterday, when I had to leave for work, my kids were in tears. This heart-wrenching moment wasn't an isolated incident; it's become all too common due to my work schedule. Despite their school obligations, my weekly work hours range from 52 to 58, leaving me with barely any quality time to spend with my family. This situation is not unique to me; it's a reality faced by many working parents across the country.

Mandatory overtime not only disrupts family life but also adversely affects our health and wellbeing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, long working hours have been linked to a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, stress, and depression. For parents, it means missing out on important milestones and family activities, which can never be regained.

The financial necessity of overtime isn't the root problem; it's the lack of choice. Employers should encourage a work-life balance by offering realistic work hours and autonomy over our schedules. Harnessing technology and improving job efficiency can reduce the need for overtime, allowing workers to lead more fulfilling lives.

Furthermore, creating a supportive workplace that values our time with family will not only improve employee health and morale but can also enhance productivity. Numerous studies have shown that happier employees are more productive, more committed, and deliver better results for their organizations.

It’s time to take a stand against mandatory overtime. By signing this petition, you are advocating for policy changes that prioritize work-life balance, promote employee wellbeing, and support family values. Let's urge our employers and lawmakers to recognize the importance of our personal lives and implement changes that allow us to thrive both professionally and personally.

Please sign this petition to help end mandatory overtime and restore balance to our lives. Together, we can make a positive change for countless families like mine.
