End mandatory IXL at A. Mario Loiderman Middle School

The Issue

Every day, I face the daunting task of completing assignments on IXL, and frankly, it's breaking me. I'm a student at A. Mario Loiderman Middle School in Montgomery County, and I know I'm not alone in my struggles. There are countless others like me who experience the same emotional turmoil from this platform.

The issue with IXL isn't just a personal opinion. A survey among my peers at school shows that a significant percentage of students feel overwhelmed and anxious when forced to use IXL for extended periods. It's not just frustration; it's impacting our mental well-being and, consequently, our performance in school.

Various studies suggest that while technology can enhance learning, it must be implemented with care and consideration of student feedback. We need an educational tool that motivates rather than demoralizes, encourages learning instead of stressing.

The real question is why IXL remains a mandatory part of our curriculum when alternatives exist. Many educational technology solutions, such as Khan Academy or Study Island, offer engaging ways of tackling the same subjects without the added stress and with better results in student satisfaction.

I'm calling on the Montgomery County Public Schools administration to re-evaluate the necessity of IXL in our daily curriculum. Let's prioritize the mental health of students by considering alternative tools that foster an encouraging and stress-free learning environment.

Please sign this petition to bring about a much-needed change at A. Mario Loiderman Middle School. Together, we can advocate for a learning environment that supports and understands us as students.
