End Legacy Admissions at Wesleyan University

End Legacy Admissions at Wesleyan University
The Issue
In light of the Supreme Court's ruling against Affirmative Action in college admissions, it falls to institutions like Wesleyan to live up to their stated values of diversity and inclusion by ending legacy admissions.
Legacy admissions have long favored the wealthy and white at Wesleyan and other universities. Indeed, the practice of legacy admissions was introduced explicitly to limit the numbers of non-white students admitted. Moreover, legacy admissions don't just advantage the white and wealthy in admissions-- the impact of this practice is felt throughout students' lives in the opportunities that become available to them.
If Wesleyan is truly committed to recruiting a racially and economically diverse student body, it must end the practice of accepting students because of their parents or other family members.
We call on all Wesleyan Alums, current students and family members of Alums to sign this petition.
