End Illegal Beach Fires in Playa del Rey Now

The Issue

Every day, the people of Playa del Rey live in fear of the next catastrophic fire. The beauty of our community is marred by the constant threat of illegal beach fires, which leave behind a dangerous trail of smoke, coal, and other pollutants, threatening both our environment and our peace of mind. As residents here, it's disheartening and shocking to witness agencies like the LAPD, LAFD, South Coast Air Quality Management District, and even the EPA neglecting their duty to enforce the laws meant to protect us and our surroundings.

One of these fires getting out of control would be devastating, not only destroying property but also putting lives at risk. The quality of air plummets, forcing us to shut our windows and doors, yet many still struggle to breathe in their own homes. This isn't just an inconvenience; it’s a serious health and environmental crisis. Coal deposits scatter our beaches, transforming what should be pristine natural spaces into ecological disasters waiting to happen.

We call on Councilmember Traci Park and relevant enforcement agencies to prioritize this issue. Enforcing existing regulations isn't an option; it's a necessity that requires immediate action. Installing visible signage about fire regulations, increasing patrols, implementing fines for violators, and setting up community watch groups could be effective steps to curb this dangerous trend. It isn't enough to wait for the next emergency; we need proactive measures.

Join us in urging our leaders to take decisive action for the safety of Playa del Rey's residents and the preservation of our environment. Your signature can make all the difference. Please sign this petition and help us bring about the change our community needs.
