End IKEA business in occupied Palestine

The Issue

We call on IKEA to take a clear and ethical stand against complicity in Israel’s illegal occupation of Palestinian territory.

We are alarmed that IKEA israel, a franchisee owned by Northern Birch, is actively delivering products to illegal israeli settlements built on ethnically cleansed Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank, while denying access to many Palestinian communities living under military occupation and apartheid. These actions directly undermine international human rights standards and contribute to the normalization of Israel’s system of oppression and segregation.

Despite raising concerns through IKEA’s internal ethics commission, we received only a generic statement from IKEA israel claiming to be "apolitical" and offering services to “all accessible destinations.” This statement willfully ignores the core issue: Palestinian communities are rendered “inaccessible” by a deliberate system of military checkpoints, roadblocks, home demolitions, and land theft, while illegal Israeli settlements — built in violation of international law — remain fully served by IKEA israel.

In reality, this is not neutrality. It is active participation in systemic injustice. By continuing to do business in illegal settlements and failing to acknowledge the discriminatory impact of its operations, IKEA is complicit in the apartheid system described by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations.

We demand that Inter IKEA Group publicly:

  • Issues a clear and unequivocal statement condemning the delivery of goods to illegal israeli settlements and the conduct of business activities in territories recognized as illegally occupied under international law.
  • Adopt and implement a binding human rights policy that prohibits all franchisees and subsidiaries from operating in or delivering goods to territories recognized as illegally occupied under international law, in line with the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights.
  • Terminate all franchise agreements or business relationships with entities found to be complicit in serving illegal Israeli settlements or conducting operations in violation of international humanitarian law.

The time to act is now. 22 new illegal settlements in the occupied West-bank have recently been approved by the israeli government, escalating the forced displacement of Palestinians. Silence and neutrality are no longer an option.

We urge IKEA to live up to its stated values and take immediate action to end its complicity.
