The Issue

Our dear grandmother, now 93 years of age and battling heart failure while on hospice care, is one among several elderly and disabled residents on her street who face a dire situation. They are consistently harassed and she is now facing the possibility of being isolated from all vehicle traffic due to a land plot record that dates back over 50 years. In the year 2025, where priority to personal well-being and standard of living is more prominent, it is inhumane to allow obtrusive regulations to hinder the comfort and safety of our senior and disabled citizens based on a neighbors interpretation of a land plot.

According to the National Council on Aging, about 25% of adults over the age of 65 need assistance with everyday activities. This assistance is often provided by family members who need to quickly and easily access their loved one’s home, indicating how detrimental people blocking roads with physical fences disabling vehicle traffic can be. In addition, AARP claims close to half of older adults experience social isolation, which may result in potential health risks. This isolation increases when they can't have relatives or other visitors due to transportation issues.

We urge the local authorities, state representatives, and attorneys to intervene and consider the relevance of the outdated land plot rules, loopholes, and desires of some to use those rules to force the elderly out of their homes. It’s time to prioritize the well-being of our elderly and the disabled residents and stop any form of harassment they experience. We are calling for effective measures to be set in place, ensuring that these vulnerable individuals are not trapped due to rigid and outdated regulations. While also applying policies and regulation standards across the board fairly no matter the age or if they have a disability. Join us in upholding the rights and dignity of our most vulnerable population. Please sign and share this petition.
