End Government Control of Hindu Temples – Return Sacred Spaces to Devotees!

End Government Control of Hindu Temples – Return Sacred Spaces to Devotees!
The Issue
This petition calls for the immediate release of Indian temples from government oversight, ensuring that temple funds, management, and decisions are returned to the hands of devotees and religious scholars who can uphold the sanctity and heritage of these spiritual institutions.
The Problem: Government Mismanagement of Temples
Under government control, many temples are subjected to mismanagement, where temple revenues are not always transparently used for the upkeep and religious activities of the temple.
A recent incident involving the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam (TTD) highlights the dangers of this mismanagement. The renowned Tirupati Laddoo, or 'Srivaari Laddoo' Prasadam, which holds deep religious significance for Hindus, was found to be adulterated with animal fats, including beef tallow, lard, and fish oil. This came as a shock when a lab report confirmed that, instead of the 100% pure ghee traditionally used to prepare the sacred prasadam, these adulterants were present. The Tirupati temple administration, TTD, itself released this report, sending shockwaves through the Hindu community worldwide and deeply hurting the sentiments of devotees.
Such incidents not only defile the sanctity of religious practices but also raise serious concerns about how temple affairs are managed under government oversight.
Why It Matters
Temples are more than just places of worship. They are the lifeblood of India’s spiritual and cultural heritage. For many, they symbolize faith, devotion, and community. When temples are controlled by external authorities, the religious and cultural integrity of these sacred places is compromised.
Hindu temples should be afforded the freedom to manage their own affairs without governmental interference.
The Solution: Return Temples to the Devotees
We call upon the Government of India to restore temple management to religious scholars, devotees, and community leaders. By forming independent temple trusts or boards comprising religious and local community members, we can ensure:
- Transparent use of temple funds for the benefit of the temple and its devotees.
- Better upkeep and management of temples, ensuring their preservation for future generations.
- Religious freedom: Allow temples to function in accordance with the customs, traditions, and beliefs of the devotees.
A Call to Action
This is a call to every Indian, every devotee, and every believer in religious freedom. Our temples deserve to be managed with the devotion and care they were built upon. The government should no longer interfere in their operations. Let us stand together to protect the sanctity of our temples and ensure that their management is returned to those who love, respect, and understand their true essence.
Sign this petition today and join the movement to free Indian temples from government control. Let’s make our voices heard, and together, we will present this petition to the President of India and the Prime Minister’s Office, demanding immediate action.
Our faith, our temples, our rights!
