End Goldfish Racing at PB ShoreClub
End Goldfish Racing at PB ShoreClub
The Issue
Animals deserve rights, and it deeply pains me to see them being exploited for entertainment. This is why I'm calling for an end to the Goldfish Racing events held at PB ShoreClub. It is both disgusting and inhumane. Goldfish racing is not just innocent fun. These events subject goldfish to stressful conditions. The vibrations caused by cheering crowds and loud music can be highly distressing for them. Goldfish have delicate systems, and the stress from these events can lead to health issues or death. How is this funny? How would you feel?
Goldfish racing often involves placing goldfish in small, narrow lanes and coaxing them to swim to the end. People then agitate the water to distress them and make them swim faster. This activity strips away any semblance of their natural habitat and subjects them to a completely unnatural environment. Goldfish are living creatures that belong in expansive, calm waters where they can live peacefully. Subjecting them to such races and the chaos that surrounds it is ethically wrong.
Scientific research supports that fish are capable of feeling pain and stress. The University of Liverpool has proven through extensive studies that fish possess the neurological substrates necessary for experiencing discomfort. Yet, activities like goldfish racing blatantly disregard these facts, treating sentient beings as nothing more than inanimate objects for human amusement.
Several other states and venues have already banned such events after public outcry, recognizing the unethical nature of this practice. California, a state renowned for its progressiveness in animal welfare, should lead the way in banning goldfish racing at PB ShoreClub.
We can find alternative entertainment options that do not involve the exploitation of animals. Many games and events can be enjoyed without causing harm to living creatures.
Let's stand together to protect these innocent fishes from unnecessary harm and set a precedent for animal welfare. Please, sign this petition to urge PB ShoreClub to put an end to goldfish racing once and for all.
