We, the students, parents, and community members of Polk School District of Georgia, believe that every student deserves to learn in an environment free from discrimination. The current dress code disproportionately targets girls through unequal enforcement, subjective language, and rules that sexualize normal clothing. Administration has been targeting girls in an unwarranted, unwanted, and sexually harassing manner. Causing undue distress to many of the girls that attend these schools as they now fear for their safety after being sexualized by the very adults that should be protecting them for wearing leggings. 

Girls are routinely removed from class, embarrassed, and disciplined for clothing items that pose no disruption to learning. These actions cause unnecessary loss of instructional time, reinforce harmful gender stereotypes, and contribute to a school culture where girls’ bodies are treated as distractions rather than as normal, acceptable parts of human life.

We assert that this constitutes gender‑based sexual discrimination and violates the principles of fairness, equality, and respect that our school claims to uphold.

We call for the administration to:

Revise the dress code to be gender‑neutral, clear, and equitable.

Remove the finger tip length shirt requirement for leggings only. 

Remove subjective terms such as “distracting” or “inappropriate” that disproportionately target girls.

Provide staff training to ensure consistent, unbiased enforcement.

Guarantee that dress code enforcement never removes students from learning time.

We urge the administration to take immediate action to create a dress code that respects all students equally and supports a safe, inclusive learning environment.
