They receive their healthcare freely, oblivious to the agonizing choices so many of us have to make about our health. This is not only deeply unfair but also stands in direct contravention to the principles of equity and justice, the pillars of any healthy democracy. Statistics supplied by the Center for Responsive Politics reveal that our Congressional representatives earn, on average, annual salaries of $174,000, not including their free health benefits. Aren’t they well equipped to afford their own premiums without taxpayer help, just like us? We demand an end to free healthcare for politicians, a practice that entrenches disparity and impedes comprehensive and fair health reform.
