The Issue

Foreign lobbying has become a significant concern in the United States, as it threatens the integrity of our democratic processes. By allowing foreign nations and entities to influence our lawmakers, we undermine the sovereignty of our nation and the ability of our government to make decisions that truly reflect the needs and wants of the American people. This practice disrupts the core principles of democracy and erodes public trust in our political system.

Each year, hundreds of millions of dollars are spent by foreign agents to lobby U.S. lawmakers. These efforts are not just about influencing policy decisions—they often involve swaying opinions in ways that favor foreign interests over domestic ones. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, foreign principals spend nearly $460 million annually on attempting to influence U.S. policy, raising questions about whose interests are truly being served.

We need to take immediate action to ensure that our elected officials are accountable only to American citizens and not beholden to foreign powers. By banning or severely limiting foreign lobbying, we can protect our legislative process from undue foreign interference. This can be achieved through revising the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) to implement stricter reporting and transparency requirements, increasing penalties for non-compliance, and eliminating loopholes that allow foreign entities to operate undetected.

We must urge Congress to prioritize legislation that restricts foreign lobbying and ensures that decisions made by our government are in the best interest of the American people. We call upon all patriotic citizens to support this initiative to strengthen our democracy and safeguard our national interests.
