The fight for human rights in the Philippines is a cause that is deeply personal to me. The country is engulfed in a pool of violence and terror, with innocent lives being taken away unfairly. Extrajudicial killings have become an alarmingly common occurrence, with political activists and journalists constantly being targeted and attacked. Moreover, the 54-year-old armed conflict against the communist insurgency continues to usher in more abuses.

Such atrocities are a blatant disregard for life and the principles of democracy. The Philippine government's increasingly tight grip on the justice system to target certain activist groups is an additional cause for concern. This constriction on the democratic space of our nation simply cannot persist.

It's high time that we start making changes. In particular, it is crucial that we put an end to extrajudicial killings. The rights to life, liberty, and security are enshrined in the Philippines Constitution, and it is the duty of the government to respect and uphold these rights. To make this happen, we must come together and take action to push for reform.
