I am an animal lover, particularly dogs. My oldest pet was rescued from a shelter. This personal experience has opened my eyes to the harsh reality that many animals face in overcrowded shelters - euthanasia. It is heartbreaking to know that these innocent creatures are put down simply because there isn't enough space for them.

Every year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized (670,000 dogs and 860,000 cats) according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). This staggering number could be significantly reduced if more safe spaces were created where these animals could live without an expiration date.

We need to advocate for policies that prioritize life over convenience and cost-effectiveness. We must urge our local governments and animal welfare organizations to stop euthanizing healthy or treatable animals in overcrowded shelters and instead invest in creating more safe spaces for them. Reinforcing our shelters and giving them the resources they need to house animals indefinitely if need be. Utilizing our current shelters will save on so much money to where sanctuaries only need placed where needed. Also enforcing new laws that hold owners responsible!!! There should be no bill or law stating it’s okay to put an animal down (only end of life stages) Hold the owners responsible. If too many animals are on the streets then hold the owners who bred them responsible!!! OWNERS and CARELESS BREEDERS NEED HELD ACCOUNTABLE. These poor animals are facing the consequences of humans!!! Enforce stricter regulations and laws to owning an animal!!! THIS GOVERNMENT IS FAILING HARD!!! Also fight for healthcare while being housed!!! Lots of places are holding animals refusing to do treatment allowing them to die!!! Make it mandatory to provide care !!!
