End Endangered Species Trafficking on Meta/Facebook

The Issue

Every day billions of people around the world log on to Facebook/Meta to share their lives with friends and loved ones, but what would you say if I told you this social media platform enables trafficking in some of the world's most seriously endangered animals? On April 7, 2022, Vice World News' Gavin Butler reported that one of the media outlet's investigator was able to make an agreement with a trafficker in Myanmar to purchase a tiger for $29,000.00 U.S. dollars. It took 6 messages and less than 24 hours and within three days, using public Facebook groups and Messenger, they were able to "arrange" the purchase of the following:

One Asiatic black bear - $1000.00

Two leopard cubs - $280.00 for both

One wolf - $67.00

One slow loris - $45.00

In 2021, the World Wildlife Fund noted that the number of transactions involving the sale of wildlife on Facebook rose 74%. The number of (easily) identified traders rose 69%. This was after Facebook/Meta publicly announced their "dedication" to ending this practice on their platform; in 2018, they joined the Coalition To End Wildlife Trafficking Online, a group that was dedicated to reducing the amount of trafficking in social media groups by 80% by 2020.

This is clearly not the case.

Please help me make a difference in the lives of endangered species worldwide. Help me make it clear to Mark Zuckerberg and those who work for him that endangered species trafficking on Facebook MUST STOP NOW.

We must be a voice for the voiceless. Thank you for signing and supporting the end of this barbaric practice.
