As a Honduran-American, I am deeply concerned about the frequent and prolonged electrical blackouts that are affecting my family and millions of people in Honduras. The lack of access to electricity not only affects daily life but also poses serious health risks, especially during the scorching summer months.

According to a report by the World Bank, Honduras has one of the lowest rates of electricity access in Latin America, with only 71% of the population having access to reliable electricity. This means that millions of people are left without power for hours or even days at a time.

The consequences of these blackouts are dire. Without power, families cannot refrigerate their food or keep their homes cool during hot weather. Hospitals and clinics struggle to provide adequate care without reliable electricity. And small businesses suffer as they cannot operate machinery or keep their products fresh.

We call on the Honduran government and utility companies to take immediate action to end these blackouts and ensure that all Hondurans have access to reliable electricity. We demand that measures be taken to improve infrastructure, increase investment in renewable energy sources such as solar power, and hold accountable those responsible for maintaining electrical grids.
