End Dorset Housing Poverty Now

The Issue

We demand that Dorset Council immediately builds social housing instead of so-called "affordable" housing.

Small-scale, well-designed developments in urban and rural areas should be mainly social rent, and will help solve the problem of so many key workers being unable to afford homes in our towns and villages.
Social housing offers rents at a truly affordable rate, typically around 50-60% of market rents, which is essential for supporting low-income families, single-parent households, seniors, and young people entering the workforce.

In contrast, "affordable" housing rents, at up to 80% of market value, remain out of reach for many key workers and vulnerable residents.

By providing more social housing, Dorset Council can...

  • Alleviate Housing Stress:
  • Build Stable Communities:
  • Reduce Poverty:
