The Issue

I invested so much time and thousands of dollars into my education at Chamberlain University in New Brunswick, only to be met with discrimination because of my health. Still reeling from being told by Professor Cathy Soden to find a different profession due to my sickle cell condition—not my grades, but because I needed to make up work after experiencing a health crisis. It's absurd to face such barriers just because of a medical condition.

This is not an isolated incident. Students with health conditions are often marginalized, overlooked, and unfairly judged within educational institutions. This leads not only to emotional distress but also hinders our career opportunities. Chamberlain University, like all educational institutions, must foster an environment that supports the rights and needs of all students, regardless of their health.

We need policies in place that ensure equal access to education for every student. Flexible schedules, understanding policies on medical emergencies, and sensitivity training for faculty members are crucial steps toward inclusivity. It's time for Chamberlain University to lead by example and eliminate discriminatory practices that harm student futures.

By ending discrimination against students with health conditions, we would be promoting a culture that values diversity and accessibility. This is not just about one student—it's about creating a nurturing environment for all students to succeed, regardless of their circumstances.

Join me in demanding that Chamberlain University implement clear policies and training to protect students with health conditions from discrimination. Sign this petition to ensure our voices are heard and to bring about real change in New Brunswick and beyond.
