End Discrimination Against Individuals With Felony Charges

The Issue

As individual’s with a felony charges personally struggle to secure 'good' employment due to societal labels and stigma. There are numerous individuals who struggle to make ends meet due to past convictions. It seems as if the system is designed for us to re-offend, without considering any modifications to make it easier for us - the convicted felons - to obtain a sustainable way of life. The irony lies in the fact that the highest office in the U.S. - the Presidency - can be run for by individuals with a felony charge and WIN bypassing background checks. Yet, felons are subjected to discrimination when it comes to ordinary job opportunities or even running for positions of local congress, state, or senate. This is unjust and bias and implicates how society does not uphold equality for all within organizations .
This disparity is a direct violation of equal rights. We request the termination of mandated background checks by organizations and demand equal rights for individuals holding felony charges. Based on the Bureau of Justice Statistics, about 68% of released prisoners were arrested for a new crime within three years, and 83% were arrested within nine years (BJS, 2018). We believe the challenge of reintegration coupled with limited job opportunities is a significant contributor to these statistics.
Let's alter these statistics by offering equal opportunities to all. Sign this petition to support ending discrimination against individuals with felony charges.
