End Daylight Savings Time for More Consistent Sunlight Hours

End Daylight Savings Time for More Consistent Sunlight Hours
The Issue
I have always found the transition to and from Daylight Saving Time (DST) to be wasteful. It disrupts our daily routines, impacts our health, and doesn't provide the benefits it was originally intended for.
The concept of DST was first introduced during World War I as a way to conserve energy, though initially seems to have started as a joke by Benjamin Franklin. Regardless of its origina, studies have shown that use of DST is not relevant in today's society. A study by the U.S Department of Energy in 2008 found that DST leads to electricity savings of only about 0.5% per day (U.S Department of Energy). Furthermore, a research conducted by Yale University revealed that any energy savings gained during DST are offset by greater energy use during the darker winter months (Yale University).
Moreover, changing our clocks twice a year has been linked with negative health effects such as sleep deprivation and increased risk of heart attacks according to studies published in The New England Journal Of Medicine and Sleep Medicine Reviews.
It is time we reconsider this outdated practice. Let's end the use of Daylight Saving Time and establish a consistent time system where noon marks peak sunlight hours throughout the year.
Please sign this petition if you agree that it's time we end DST for good and continue with permanent standard time.
