End Corporate Manipulation and Negligence

End Corporate Manipulation and Negligence
The Issue
If you live in the United States, odds are high that you've heard "shrinkflation" being talked about in the news or at the very least, felt it in your wallets at the checkout counter of your local grocery store. The containers holding your items grow smaller while prices go up, even though you're purchasing the same product that you have for months or years. Since 2020 and the start of the pandemic, companies have since thrown around any number of justifications for price increases; shortages, inflation, increased labor costs, etc. However, many institutions and organizations have found that it was profit driven focus alone that accounts for over 50% of the inflation and price increase that we have felt and seen in our daily lives.
In recent years, there has been an uptick in corporations building or purchasing apartment complexes. With the housing shortage present in this country, it is apparent that the supply must meet the demand of our growing nation. However, dozens of Federal lawsuits have already been filed against the corporations building or renting these houses and apartments due to the usage of software that sends your sensitive information to other corporations to collude to fix the price of their units. Moreover, should there be a problem with your unit, having repairs made has become an increasingly difficult process. One specific corporation, labeled the "largest provider of single-family homes for rent" by NBC news, has raised rent for tenants living in units with black mold, cracked foundations and inoperable heating systems in their Northern U.S. based units. According to Minnesota's own Attorney General, the company, "systematically understaffed and under-resourced the upkeep of its properties in a deliberate effort to extract profits."
While our cost of living goes up, our wages also have not. In the modern age, we are asked time and time again to learn new technologies and processes to better serve the company with no increase in wages to compensate. At most, corporate employees receive a small annual percentage bonus, averaging 3.5% in 2024. In 2023, however, that rate sat above 4%. The responsibilities are increasing, the scope of your role within the company growing alongside it, yet they are slated to pay us less than the year prior. With the integration of AI, self checkout and other various forms of automation, there are less employees to pay and somehow wages are on the decline.
Whether you're in line at the grocery store, trying to use the health insurance you've paid into for years, paying your utility bills or hoping for a raise after covering for an entire department by yourself, the evidence is all around us that the American people are being bled dry and left to die. Our food has been pumped full of chemicals, our industries outsourced, our economy openly manipulated and our wages at a standstill. These companies continue to expand, asking more and more, while continuing to lie to our faces and renege on their promises with no practical recourse available to the average working person.
If this is the trend, what will life be like for our children, or our children's children? Will they wander through life working 7 days a week, unable to afford a home or healthcare? We have all collectively allowed this to happen and it is time for that to change.
I am calling on the United States Government and the spirit of the American people to reclaim our dignity, safety and worth. We are more than numbers, more than cogs in a machine to generate profit as we struggle to pay our bills. By way of legislation, regulation, scaled unionization or whatever the end result may be, it is time that we call attention to this cancerous growth and cut it out of our country. If President Biden or President-elect Trump truly care about the American people, then these executives and untethered companies putting profit over people will be held accountable for their negligence, lies, broken promises, and criminal acts against the United States of America and her people. Corporate America is the swamp that needs drained and if we are to fight giants, we must band together and become united once more.
