End Corporal Punishment in Florida Schools

The Issue

My daughter was subjected to corporal punishment in her school, despite my explicit instructions against it. She was taken into a room with two men, without any female presence, and paddled. The excessive force used left welts and bruises on her backside. She felt violated and uncomfortable, as if the men derived some perverse pleasure from this act - an utterly disgusting situation.

This is not an isolated incident but a systemic issue prevalent across 19 school districts in Florida including Bradford, Calhoun, Columbia, Dixie, Franklin, Gilchrist, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Highlands Holmes Jackson Lafayette Levy Liberty Suwanee Union Wakulla Washington. These schools openly condone and practice corporal punishment.

Corporal punishment is not only physically harmful but also psychologically damaging for students. It promotes violence as a means of problem-solving and can lead to long-term mental health issues (American Psychological Association). Moreover it's been proven ineffective at improving student behavior or academic performance (American Academy of Pediatrics).

The time has come to put an end to this archaic practice that violates the rights of our children under the guise of discipline. We demand that Florida schools abolish corporal punishment immediately.
