The Issue

Growing up, many of us learned about the horrors of the Holocaust, the Rwandan genocide depicted in Hotel Rwanda, and the brutal conflict shown in Blood Diamond. These stories of unimaginable suffering always left one haunting question: What would I have done if I had lived through such times?

Today, that question is no longer hypothetical. We are living through it. Right now, in Nigeria, Christians are being targeted, slaughtered, and displaced in a systematic campaign of terror—an unfolding wave of anti-Christian violence that recalls the darkest chapters of human history.

These atrocities are not distant memories from the past—they are happening in real time. Radical militias continue to attack Christian villages, burning homes, abducting families, and murdering men, women, and children for their faith.

The international community cannot remain silent while an entire population is persecuted for their beliefs. The United States has both the moral obligation and the strategic capacity to act. We call for a two-part intervention to address this crisis at its root:

1. Electoral Reform

The U.S. should press for immediate reforms to Nigeria’s electoral systems—specifically, adoption and enforcement of secure, direct electronic transmission of results from IREV/IVR (or similarly verifiable systems). Transparent and accountable results transmission is vital to restoring public trust, strengthening democratic institutions, and reducing violence linked to contested elections.

2. Targeted Security Action to Stop Mass Killings

We urge the U.S. Senate to support a coordinated international effort to halt the ongoing mass killings of civilians. This includes:

Urgent U.S. support for credible counterterrorism operations and humanitarian assistance targeting armed groups responsible for attacks on civilians.
Conditioning or suspending security assistance to Nigerian actors credibly implicated in enabling militant violence.
Establishing mechanisms to bypass complicit entities if credible evidence shows elements of the Nigerian government are aiding or ignoring these atrocities—ensuring aid and protection reach victims directly.
When election results are manipulated and armed groups act with impunity, it is innocent civilians who suffer. Each day that passes, more lives are lost, more families are torn apart, and more communities are erased from the map.

Silence, in this moment, is complicity.

History will remember how we responded. Let us choose courage. Let us stand for faith, freedom, and the sanctity of human life.

Add your voice. Sign this petition today—and help ensure that the world can no longer look away from Nigeria’s suffering. Together, we can demand action, accountability, and an end to this violence.
