End Child Labor and Prioritize children’s Education

The Issue

As a resident of Banjul, I am deeply concerned about the future of our children. They are the leaders of tomorrow and their future should be prioritized. However, it is disheartening to see that many underaged children in our city are working instead of receiving an education.

Child labor is a pressing issue in The Gambia. According to UNICEF reports, about 34% of children aged between 5-14 years are engaged in child labor (UNICEF). This not only deprives them of their childhood but also hampers their education and personal growth.

Education is a fundamental right for every child and it plays a crucial role in shaping their future. It provides them with the knowledge and skills needed to improve their lives and contribute positively to society.

We need urgent action from our local government officials to address this issue. We call on them to enforce stricter laws against child labor, ensure all children have access to quality education, and provide support for families so they don't have to rely on their children's income.

This petition aims at creating awareness about the plight of these young workers while urging authorities in Banjul, The Gambia, to take immediate steps towards ending child labor and prioritizing education for all children.

Please sign this petition if you believe that every child deserves an opportunity for a better future through quality education rather than being forced into work at such tender ages.
