End bullying for personal interests and identity
The Issue
Growing up, I have constantly been judged and bullied because of what I like and who I am. I'm an otherpaw, an artist and a dragon puppeteer; I find joy in nature, kandi, and weird core aesthetics. Yet, my choices and interests have led to ridicule and alienation, particularly from certain people at school. This isn't just my story—it's a reality faced by countless others who are deemed different because of their unique likings or identities.
In today's diverse world, being part of the LGBTQ+ community, having hobbies like collecting random things, or enjoying specific music styles should not invite bullying or judgement. Everyone has the right to exist without fear of being mocked simply because they don't conform to someone else's idea of 'normal'. It’s crucial we create a society where being distinctive is celebrated and not condemned.
According to studies, nearly 20% of students nationwide report being bullied, with many incidents related to personal interests or identity. This has significant effects on mental health, leading to increased rates of anxiety, depression, and even suicide among LGBTQ+ youth and others who face similar harassment.
What we're aiming for is straightforward yet transformative: to push for mandatory anti-bullying programs in schools. Educational institutions must implement systems that foster empathy and understanding among students. Such programs should include awareness on diversity, differences in identity, and interests, and stress on the importance of respect for all.
Furthermore, we urge schools to train staff to identify and address bullying effectively, ensuring they provide immediate and appropriate support to the victims. Ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for every student should be a fundamental goal of our educational system.
Together, let’s advocate for a bullying-free educational experience where personal interests and identities are respected and valued. Sign this petition to demand change in our schools and foster a culture of kindness and acceptance.
