Baldwin County residents deserve a misdemeanor probation system that is transparent, accountable, and focused on rehabilitation rather than private profit.

Judicial Alternatives of Georgia, commonly known as JAG Probation, provides private misdemeanor probation services in Baldwin County. Under the current arrangement, probationers can be required to pay monthly supervision fees directly to a private, for-profit company in addition to court fines, drug testing, monitoring, classes, and other costs.

This petition is asking the Baldwin County Board of Commissioners to end or decline to renew the county’s contract with JAG Probation and to publicly evaluate a more accountable alternative for misdemeanor supervision.

Our concerns include the financial burden placed on probationers, technical violations that can lead to incarceration without a new criminal charge, the use of jail for probation enforcement, and the broader impact these practices may have on Baldwin County taxpayers and jail capacity.

We are also asking Baldwin County to release meaningful public data showing how many people are supervised by JAG, how many probation violations are filed, how many violations result in jail, the reasons for those violations, and how much money is being collected through probation-related fees.

This petition is not about excusing criminal conduct. It is about asking whether misdemeanor probation should be operated through a private, fee-driven model when the consequences can include incarceration and substantial additional costs to residents.

We are calling for transparency, public accountability, and a probation system that serves Baldwin County citizens first.
