End "At Will" Law in Georgia!

End "At Will" Law in Georgia!
The Issue
As a resident of Georgia, I am deeply concerned about the unjust "At Will to Work" law that allows employers in our state to terminate employees without any justifiable reason. This law not only creates an environment of uncertainty and insecurity for workers but also grants employers the power to deny unemployment benefits, leaving individuals and families vulnerable during times of economic hardship.
Personal Story:
I have personally experienced the devastating consequences of this law. In July 2023, I was unexpectedly let go from my job without any warning or explanation. Despite being a dedicated and hardworking employee, I found myself suddenly unemployed with no recourse or protection under the current legislation. The financial strain that followed was immense, as I struggled to make ends meet while searching for new employment opportunities. Also, my former employer denied my unemployment claim.
This personal experience has motivated me to take action against this unfair practice that affects countless individuals across our state. No one should be subjected to such arbitrary terminations that can upend lives and livelihoods without any valid justification.
Facts and Statistics:
1. Georgia is one of only three states in the United States that still adheres strictly to the "At Will" doctrine, allowing employers complete discretion over terminating employees.
2. According to a report by ProPublica, approximately 40% of private-sector workers in Georgia are employed at-will.
3. The current law undermines job security and stability for workers who contribute significantly towards their employer's success.
4. Studies have shown that states with stronger worker protections experience lower rates of unemployment and higher levels of overall job satisfaction.
Petition Goal:
We call upon Governor Brian Kemp and members of the Georgia State Legislature to abolish the "At Will" employment law in our state immediately! It is time we prioritize fairness, stability, and dignity for all working Georgians by implementing legislation that protects employees from arbitrary terminations without cause.
By repealing this outdated law, we can ensure that workers are treated with respect and given a fair chance to address any concerns or issues before facing termination. Additionally, it is crucial to guarantee that employees who lose their jobs unjustly are not denied unemployment benefits, providing them with the necessary support during times of financial hardship.
Let us stand together and demand change for a more equitable and just working environment in Georgia. Sign this petition today to help protect the rights of workers and create a stronger foundation for our state's economy.
Together, we can make a difference!
