The Issue

For many years, I have lived locally to Harrogate, a town known for its beautiful landscapes and rich history. However, nestled within this serene environment is Labcorp, a facility where animals are subjected to testing and cruelty daily. This is a personal matter for me, not just because it is close to home, but because of the devastating suffering that these innocent animals endure under the guise of scientific progress.

In the United Kingdom, it is estimated that over 3 million animals are used in scientific procedures each year. This staggering number includes mice, rabbits, dogs, and primates, subjected to experimentation that often causes pain, distress, and lasting harm. At Labcorp Harrogate, various reports highlight the grim reality of these practices, with animals kept in confined spaces, living in fear and suffering from experiments that yield limited scientific value.

To put into perspective the scale of Labcorp's abuse: the facility was established in the 1970's and currently employs over 1,400 staff and is located on Harlow Hill, Otley Road, Harrogate consisting of 170 study rooms. Labcorp Harrogate uses over 100,000 animals annually, each one capable of emotion, feeling pain both physically and psyschologically, and each individual creature robbed of a life that they should have been granted. The reason the beagle breed is used further strengthens the sheer discraceful nature of these studies: they are forgiving, do not bite when hurt and they are trusting and friendly dogs, who will tolerate the abuse they are subjected to.

The ethical implications of animal testing are immense. With advances in technology, we now have alternative methods such as in vitro testing, computer modeling, and sophisticated human-patient simulators that can replace animal-based research methods. These alternatives not only prevent the cruelty meted out to animals but also provide safety testing and efficacy data that are more relevant to humans.

Moreover, consumer awareness and demand for cruelty-free products have significantly increased. Many reputable companies have turned to ethical testing methodologies, setting a standard that challenges institutions like Labcorp to evolve and abandon outdated practices. It is crucial that we call on Labcorp Harrogate to cease animal testing and instead implement humane, innovative methods that uphold ethical considerations while still contributing to scientific advancement.

Animal rights should not be sacrificed for research and profit. By signing this petition, you stand in solidarity with those who advocate for the welfare of animals and the advancement of cruelty-free research. Let's work together to make Harrogate a beacon of progress and compassion.

Please sign this petition to urge Labcorp Harrogate to end animal testing and cruelty, and commit to ethical alternatives that reflect our community's values. These animals do not have a voice, so as someone who does i am now giving them one: if they could tell you what they had seen behind those walls you would more than likely never be the same, as I know for a fact they will not be.
