Every year, billions of animals are subjected to cruel and inhumane testing practices. It’s not right, and it's time we put an end to it. These animals suffer immensely in the name of science or product safety, often without any regulatory purpose or humane consideration. I am deeply disturbed by the extent to which animal testing is ingrained in our system: from household products to medical laboratories, where even dogs, monkeys, and potentially giraffes are not exempt from painful and unnecessary experiments.

Animal testing is outdated and often unreliable. According to the Humane Society International, it is estimated that 92% of drugs that pass preclinical tests on animals fail in human trials. This shows that alternatives can and should be sought.

Advancements in technology provide us with alternative methods that are more cost-effective, humane, and scientifically accurate. These include cell-based tests, computer modeling, and human-patient simulators, among others. Transitioning to such alternatives could spare millions of animals from suffering while also providing more reliable data for human applications.

There have already been significant strides in Australia, where the use of animal-tested cosmetics has been banned, and the European Union, which is leading efforts to phase out animal testing by embracing new technologies. We should follow their lead and push for comprehensive legislation that prohibits animal testing across various industries.

Join me in urging legislators to prioritize and pass laws that end animal testing for all animals, ensuring that we no longer rely on these outdated practices. Together, we can protect the vulnerable lives of countless animals and pave the way for a more ethical and humane future.
