End Absolute Presumptive Immunity for U.S. Presidents

The Issue

I am a concerned citizen, intensely passionate about the future of our great nation. The core of our democracy rests upon a fundamental principle: no one, regardless of their position or power, is above the law. Presently, there is an unwritten rule that allows for what's known as absolute presumptive immunity for sitting U.S. Presidents, a concept I find deeply problematic. This unwritten rule prevents criminal prosecution against a sitting president, essentially placing them above the law. The Harvard Law Review has noted how this tradition, lacking clear legal grounding, poses a threat to our democracy, with potential for misuse of power, corruption, and disregard for our institutions' checks and balances (Source: Harvard Law Review, Vol. 132). This is unacceptable in a country where law and justice should be the prevailing forces, guaranteeing fairness and equity for every citizen. To safeguard our nation's future, we must amend our Constitution to explicitly reject absolute presumptive immunity for any president, reaffirming our commitment to the rule of law and the principle that no one is above it. Please, lend your voice to this cause. Sign the petition.
