We have all seen it, the manipulation and control that Tom exerts over our dear friend. It's a personal matter for us because we care about her wellbeing. We've witnessed how he has slowly chipped away at her self-esteem, making her feel less than she is. This is not just an isolated case; according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the United States have been victims of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
