Encourage Tech Giants to Create Ethnic Flag Emojis

Encourage Tech Giants to Create Ethnic Flag Emojis
The issue
As someone who identifies with a specific ethnicity, I often find myself unable to express my cultural identity through emojis. Countless ethnicities around the world have to use other countries' flag emojis as they don't have emojis of their ethnic flags. This is not just about symbols; it's about representation and inclusivity in the digital age.
In our increasingly interconnected world, communication has transcended beyond words. Emojis are now an integral part of how we express ourselves digitally. However, the lack of representation for ethnic flags is a glaring omission that needs rectification.
Apple, Samsung and other tech companies have made strides in diversifying emoji options over the years - from different skin tones to more gender-inclusive symbols - but there's still room for improvement when it comes to representing global cultures.
According to Unicode Consortium, which coordinates the development of new emojis, there are currently 3,521 emojis available (Emojipedia). Yet none represent specific ethnicities or indigenous groups around the globe. This lack of diversity sends an unfortunate message that these communities are less important or invisible in digital communication.
We call on Apple, Samsung and other tech giants to take action by creating emojis for ethnic flags. Let's ensure every person can proudly display their heritage and culture through this universal language of digital expression!
Please sign this petition if you believe in a more inclusive digital world where everyone’s cultural identity is acknowledged and celebrated!
