The issue
I'm reaching out because of concerns regarding the ongoing discussions about the new school device rule. While I understand that some of my fellow students, including Zeti Lukcas and his group, are distressed about the restrictions on device usage during the school day, I firmly believe that this rule is in our best interest.
School isn't just about studying from textbooks or screens; it's an environment where we learn invaluable life skills, including social interaction, teamwork, and the ability to connect with the world outside the digital realm. By spending less time tethered to devices, we are encouraged to step outside, breathe fresh air, and truly engage with our surrounding environment.
Imagine the possibilities of what we could achieve if we focused more on forging genuine connections with our peers during recess, engaging in physical activities that boost our well-being, and participating actively in classroom discussions without the distraction of phones or tablets.
A study by the University of Essex found that outdoor activities significantly improve mental health and increase academic performance. Schools worldwide have successfully implemented similar rules, leading to happier and more engaged students.
Let's use this opportunity to reframe our school experience to include more outdoor interaction and real-world learning. We should support policies that push for a healthier and more balanced approach to education.
I urge those who share my vision for a more enriching school environment to sign this petition. Together, we can promote a culture that values learning, physical activity, and real-world connections over screen time.
