Encourage NMDOT to Install a Sprinkler System in Tularosa's Highway Medians
The Issue
I, a passionate resident of the wonderfully vibrant Tularosa, NM, find joy in the lush greenery that paints our medians along the highway. As a lover of our town and its plant life, I find concern in the lack of watering facilities for maintaining the allure and health of our rose bushes, native plants, succulents and wildflowers that line the road. Through the efforts of our tireless volunteer at Keep Tularosa Beautiful, these plants received love and nourishment despite challenging conditions. However, he has now been restricted by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), who've ruled out his watering attempts citing safety reasons.
It is recognized that over 180 cities across the US have installed sprinkler systems in their medians to maintain their natural beauty (USDOT Report, 2017). We plead that NMDOT doesn't overlook the importance of nurturing our native plant life and consider adopting a similar solution. The installation of a sprinkler system would maintain our beloved roses and prevent their unnecessary withering, while making the job safer for our volunteers.
We urge NMDOT to accept this responsibility for the betterment of our town’s aesthetic and natural diversity, and to simultaneously ensure the safety of our local volunteers. As concerned residents, we call on our senators to intervene and support this proposition.
Help continue to keep Tularosa beautiful. Sign this petition urging NMDOT to install a life-giving sprinkler system in our medians. Let the roses bloom and the town thrive.
