Gainesville is facing a housing shortage! We have more people moving into our city than we have homes to accommodate them, which is leading to suburban sprawl outside our city. Gainesville's city commission is voting to end exclusionary zoning and allow for more housing diversity and density in our neighborhoods. There is a small but very vocal group of opponents who have continually exaggerated the negative effects of this vote. If the zoning reforms pass, the city will be better positioned to stave off sprawl, save our wild spaces outside of the city, and have the framework for building better bike, bus, and walking infrastructure.
