The Issue

I am vested in the protection and preservation of our cherished town history. Recognizing that our past is a roadmap to our future, I am compelled to petition the Town of Hastings to dedicate space for storing and showcasing historical artifacts.

Our history is vital for understanding our heritage, connecting with the past, and ensuring continuity for future generations. The artifacts that lie in our town represent the character and history of Hastings. They are living testimonies, silently speaking volumes about the times that have passed. They serve as a critical link for our next generation to feel connected to their origin.

Instead of allowing space to be wasted for offices for part-time elected councilmen, such space can be effectively utilized for a public cause, converting it into a common hub that brings our community together. A place that educates, inspires, and takes the locals and visitors on a journey through the sands of time.

Pew Research Center indicates that roughly 28% of Americans visit a history museum, cultural or historical park nearly every month (source: 'Americans and Cultural Resources' study, Pew Research Center, 2017). The Town of Hastings can indeed benefit from such an attraction that would increase tourism, strengthen community identity, and stimulate the local economy.

Let us educate, commemorate, and cherish our past to inspire our future. I urge the Town of Hastings to provide residents and visitors an opportunity to learn and appreciate our town's history by allocating a dedicated space for historical artifacts. Please show your support for this cause and sign the petition.
