Our incredible 60-year-old neighbor has worked as a hairdresser most of her life. Despite facing unemployment due to disability over the past decade, she has maintained her skills and her vibrant spirit — fueled by her passion for hairstyling and a bit of an eccentric personality. Recently, when our neighbor requested a cigarette, my husband offered to trade a whole pack for a haircut instead. She agreed, and my husband received a fantastic haircut in return.

But here's where our disagreement began: I am of the opinion that this kind neighbor deserves more than just a pack of cigarettes for her professional services. She should receive a tip too, a minimum of $20 I suggested, which is almost half the price of an average haircut priced at $45 as per a study by Square Incorporated (2018). However, my husband disagreed, and thus emerged a domestic dispute.

Through this petition, we're reaching out to everyone to share their thoughts: should my husband tip our neighbor for her hairstyling service? It's a question of decency, fairness, and respect for a professional service, even when delivered with informal settings. At the end of the day, a service well-delivered deserves fair compensation above all else.

I was embarassed that he didn't treat my long time friend and neighbor fairly and I want to call him out for being cheap. Or I need a better understanding of they had a deal and I need to stay out of it.
