The Issue

Leonard Slaughter has been a pillar of support and strength for countless individuals in Lexington, Kentucky. Having personally witnessed Leonard's unwavering dedication to his community, I can attest to his selfless commitment to helping others, especially through his work with "FREE: Felon Reentry Education & Empowerment." Leonard doesn't just help on the surface; he digs deep, using his own resources and time to offer substantial aid.  From helping felons find employment to assisting with housing applications, buying coats and shoes for children all without seeking public acknowledgment. This is a man with a heart so generous, now finds himself wrongfully accused and in need of our support.

Leonard has been unjustly charged with assault and wanton endangerment, accused of allegedly striking a man with his firearm while the weapon discharged in what was an act of self-defense. This incident is yet another example of the consistent failure of Lexington PD to protect Leonard and his family,  as multiple attempts were made by him for assistance from the Lexington PD prior to the alleged incident he was charged with and Lexington PD failed to respond to his reports. Instead of investigating deeply and fairly, they have chosen to flip the roles, labeling Leonard as the aggressor rather than the victim he truly is.

These charges hold severe consequences that could permanently damage Leonard’s life and the invaluable work he does for our community. We cannot let this stand, knowing the true character and intentions of this man. The charges are a miscarriage of justice and only serve to dismantle the positive impact he relentlessly strives to achieve.

It is imperative that we, as residents of Lexington and advocates of justice, make our voices heard. We demand that the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the Lexington Police Department re-evaluate the circumstances of this case and drop the charges against Leonard. His track record of community service and empowerment speaks louder than these unfounded accusations.

By signing this petition, you stand with Leonard Slaughter in his fight for justice. Let us not allow a system fraught with inconsistencies to ruin the life of someone who has spent it uplifting others. Support Leonard by signing this petition and calling on our leaders to take a stand for what's right. Demand justice for Leonard Slaughter today.
