The Issue

When we entrust the care of our loved ones to assisted living facilities, we expect them to be in safe hands. But what happens when these facilities fall short in providing critical care that could save lives? My family knows this pain all too well.

The tragic loss of my loved one, Robert, might have been prevented if an emergency medical service (EMS) team had been readily available at the assisted living facility where he spent his final days. This personal heartbreak has fueled my mission to ensure that no other family experiences such a preventable tragedy.

In Minnesota, Larry's Law was enacted to mandate the presence of EMS at certain care facilities, a measure that has already shown life-saving results. Colorado can follow their example by establishing Robert's Law. Robert's Law would require that EMS personnel be on-site at all times in assisted living facilities across the state, ensuring immediate medical attention whenever emergencies arise.

The data is clear: assisted living residents are significantly more likely to require urgent medical care. According to the National Council on Aging, about 70% of people over age 65 will need some type of long-term care services, and many of these individuals have chronic conditions that could lead to medical emergencies.

By implementing Robert's Law, we can save countless lives and offer families peace of mind knowing their loved ones have immediate access to professional medical support. This is not just a logistical necessity—it is a moral one.

Join me in advocating for this crucial change. Let us compel Colorado lawmakers to prioritize the health and safety of our elderly population. Your signature can push Robert's Law into reality, safeguarding more families from unnecessary loss. Please sign and share this petition today.
