The overwhelming majority of jurisdictions in Maryland choose their School Board members in contested elections.  Unfortunately, members of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education are selected by an unelected and unrepresentative committee of political appointees.  This process undermines accountability, a cornerstone of representative democracy.

Accordingly, be it known that we, the undersigned, support the requirement that all members of the Anne Arundel County Board of Education henceforth be elected by the citizens of Anne Arundel County in free and fair elections.
