Enact Laws Protecting Customer Service Employees from Abuse

The Issue

My name is Robert Kydd, and every day, I face the emotional toll that comes from working in customer service. Like me, millions of workers encounter face-to-face abuse and suffer from verbal abuse over the phone. We continue to provide the best service while enforcing company policies, yet we deal with verbal and sometimes physical harassment with minimal, if any, protection.

These incidents aren't isolated or rare. According to the Customer Service Barometer by American Express, one in two customers admit to losing their temper with a customer service professional at least once in their lifetime. This striking statistic demonstrates the frequency and intensity of the abuse employees have to endure on a daily basis.

For the sake of every single one of those dedicated, hardworking individuals, we absolutely need legislation enacted to protect customer service employees from these harsh conditions. This law should cover all types of abuse - verbal, physical and emotional - that occur both in person and over the phone.

In this age of striving for better workplace environments, no one should be left vulnerable to gratuitous abuse in their job. We demand that both the private sector and the legal system take immediate responsibility for safeguarding customer service personnel. Please sign this petition to support legal protection for workers in customer service against the abuse they experience daily. Stand with us. Your signature can make a real difference.
