The Issue

I am a Mauritian resident who, like many others, sees the potential of YouTube as a platform for creativity and income generation. However, we are currently unable to monetize our content due to regional restrictions. This limitation is not only stifling individual creators but also hindering the growth of our digital economy.

Mauritius has a vibrant community of content creators who are eager to share their unique perspectives with the world. With over 1.3 billion users worldwide, YouTube offers an unparalleled opportunity for us to reach global audiences and generate revenue from our work (source: Statista). Yet, this opportunity remains out of reach for us.

By enabling monetization in Mauritius, YouTube would be supporting local talent and contributing to the diversification of our economy. In 2020 alone, YouTube contributed approximately $16 billion USD to the U.S GDP (source: Oxford Economics), demonstrating its potential as a significant economic driver.

We urge Google Inc., which owns Youtube, to reconsider its policies and allow Mauritian creators access to monetization features on their platform. This change will empower individuals across Mauritius by providing them with new opportunities for income generation while promoting cultural exchange through digital media.

Please sign this petition if you believe in supporting creative freedom and economic growth in Mauritius.
