Enable Urdu Writing with Google TTS for Android Users
Enable Urdu Writing with Google TTS for Android Users
The Issue
As users of Android's Google Text-to-Speech (TTS) services for Urdu language, we are grateful that we are enabled to read Urdu text via Android phones. Despite this beneficial feature, we are hindered by the inability to write Urdu using voice commands, a feature which is inaccessible yet necessary in our digital experience especially for the visually impaired.
Among us is an individual who is visually impaired. Using Android’s features and services, they have the ability to read the Urdu language. However, they stumble upon barriers when it comes to writing Urdu, thus impacting their ability to effectively communicate in their personal and professional life, when and where Urdu is required.
For a language spoken by an estimated 100 million people in Pakistan alone, and many around the globe, this limitation remarkably reduces the scope of interaction and convenience that could otherwise be achieved.
We request Google, creators of the Android platform, to work on providing the Urdu language pack for voice to text services in their upcoming updates. This improvement will not only facilitate a large fraction of Android users but will also significantly impact the lives of visually impaired users, by offering them a more comprehensive and enabling digital experience.
Join us in urging Google to include Urdu writing through TTS in their next updates. This is not just about adding a new language pack; it's about inclusiveness, accessibility, and equal opportunities. Sign our petition today!
