Enable parent choice for Guardian Cap usage in OEC Pop Warner Football and beyond

Enable parent choice for Guardian Cap usage in OEC Pop Warner Football and beyond
The Issue
Petition for Guardian Cap Use in Youth Football
To: Orange Empire Conference
Date: October, 16th 2024
Subject: Request for Parental Choice to Utilize Guardian Caps for Enhanced Safety.
We, the undersigned parents and guardians of youth athletes in OEC Pop Warner are writing to express our support for the use of Guardian Caps during practices and games. Our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our children while participating in contact sports.
Background: Guardian Caps are soft, padded headgear designed to reduce the risk of head injuries. With increasing awareness of concussions and their long-term effects, we believe that allowing our children the option to wear these protective caps is a crucial step toward ensuring their safety.
Request: We request that OEC implement a policy that allows parents the choice to have their children wear Guardian Caps during practices and games. Furthermore, we propose that parents be allowed to sign a waiver releasing OEC Orange Empire Conference from liability related to the use of Guardian Caps.
Benefits of Guardian Caps:
1 Injury Prevention: Research indicates that these caps can help mitigate the force of impacts, reducing the likelihood of concussions.
2 Informed Choice: Empowering parents to make informed decisions regarding their child’s safety fosters a supportive environment.
3 Community Standards: Aligning with other leagues and organizations that have adopted similar policies demonstrates a commitment to athlete safety.
Conclusion: We believe that by allowing the use of Guardian Caps and providing a waiver option, OEC Pop Warner can enhance safety measures and promote a culture of care for all athletes. We urge you to consider this request and prioritize the health and safety of our children.
Signatures: [Space for signatures and printed names of parents/guardians]
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. We look forward to your positive response.
