As ordinary citizens of West Sussex, we are personally aware of the financial difficulties many families face daily, especially regarding transportation costs. Despite financial strain, we persist in ensuring that our children can access education, healthcare, and social connections. However, the rising cost of bus fare serves as a significant barrier to achieving this task. An adult weekly bus pass for stagecoach costs around £34; for a child, it is £24. When translated monthly, a family with one child is burdened with a fare of over £200, a figure that increases with more children. This situation is particularly challenging for families without personal transportation who rely heavily on bus services. According to the Office for National Statistics, approximately 3.7 million children live in households who cannot afford unexpected expenses such as this.

Our petition appeals to the conscience of our local MP to facilitate free bus transport for all children in West Sussex.
