The Issue

Every morning, living in Kensington and Factreton presents a unique challenge. Due to limited exit points from the area, we are left to grapple with severe traffic congestion, hindering both private and public transportation. This issue is a remnant of Apartheid-era planning that has not been adequately addressed.

These neighboring areas are the only ones along the Voortrekker Road corridor between Cape Town and Bellville without direct road access to the N1 highway. A stark contrast lies in the case of Maitland, a formerly Whites-only area which enjoys more accessibility.

This imbalance in city planning not only hampers our daily lives but also underscores the socio-spatial inequalities that continue to persist in our communities. Our plea is for Kensington/Factreton to be granted access to the N1 from Acre Road near Century City station.

This much-needed change will not only alleviate traffic congestion during peak hours but also demonstrate a commitment to redressing past injustices in our urban landscape. It is high time our communities enjoyed the same level of access as closer areas. Sign this petition and join us in lobbying for our rightful inclusion in city planning, and a future of improved traffic flow and fairness.
