Gravity Falls was a show loved by both children and teens alike. As the story progressed, the themes matured with their intended audiences going from lighthearted summer adventures and puppy love to having to making decisions about futures in terms of experience and education and grappling with the fact that people may act in antisocial ways to achieve what they perceive to be good futures for their loved ones. Now the original intended audience is largely compromised of college students or upperclassmen in high school, struggling with many real terrors in our world. How to pay for college, how political unrest will affect our nations future, how to cope with the fact that very few of us will reach financial stability if prices continue on this trajectory. This is why I propose that Alex Hirsch releases a season 3 of Gravity Falls, to give us an outlet to explore scary concepts in a short 23 minute episode where the good guys prosper most of the time, and when they don’t there’s still hope to be found. I feel that this new season would be best carried out on the Disney Plus Streaming Platform to allow for deeper things and less strict censorship rules. This new season would serve many purposes. It would serve to remind us that it’s okay to be weird in a society that keeps trying to pull us back into more conservative and uniform cutouts. It would serve to just let us be kids again in 23 minute increments. It would serve as a symbol of how we grow and change yet still remain the same at our core, just as this additional season could.
