The Issue

The tragic story of Stan, a vibrant 8-year-old boy who lost his life during a school recess, is a painful memory that I still hold dear. It happened in 3rd grade - Stan experienced a severe asthma attack, and help arrived too late. Our school's nurse, who was responsible for carrying Stan's inhaler, had no sense of urgency. And due to this lack of promptness and seriousness, we lost a priceless life that day.

Stan's story isn't unique. Every day, students across the world face similar risks due to schools' poor handling of medical emergencies. But we don't have to wait for another tragedy. We can prevent future incidents if we step forward and demand a change.

I propose a simple but effective solution: Allow teachers to store inhalers and other medical devices in their classrooms or permit trusted students to carry them at all times. Implementing this change can significantly improve emergency response times, which can save lives more effectively.

According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, Asthma is a prevalent condition among children, affecting about 10% of children worldwide. Timely access to necessary medication is crucial to managing symptoms and potentially saving lives.

Let’s stand together to make our schools safer and more supportive for students with medical conditions. Join me in calling for our education system to adopt proactive measures. In memory of Stan, we can make this life-saving change in school systems across the world. Please, sign and share this petition.
