My name is Nicole Williams, and I am the founder of tech company, SiteAgent. My team and I are campaigning to get the New York State Song changed to “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z & Alicia Keys. We have come to the conclusion that this song is a better fit for our State Song. 

New York State has a rich and unique cultural history. A crucial and unmissable part of that is the music, which historically is a mixture of Jazz, Rock, Pop, R&B and Hip Hop. The song “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys is not only a more contemporary song, but a better representation of the true culture of New York than the current state song. Chances are you’ve never heard a Native New Yorker whistling "I Love New York" while walking down the street or spontaneously singing it in a fit of pure state patriotism.

“Empire State of Mind” is simpler, more pop culture oriented and a song everyone in New York has heard  of. We believe the song strongly represents New York and the culture it embodies.

The song that represents a state song should be well known and catchy, not quaint and unknown to the average citizen. 

Help us make “Empire State of Mind” by Jay-Z & Alicia Keys New York’s new Hip-Hop Anthem. And if anyone knows Jay or Alicia personally, we would love to have their support.
